Organized by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), the event is part of a series of activities promoting digital transformation across countries in the region, featuring the participation of major technology companies such as Qualcomm, Nokia, Ericsson, LG, and others. Under the theme “Connecting Vietnam – The Role of Mobile Industry in Building a Digital Nation,” the summit focused on discussing solutions to develop a modern and sustainable digital ecosystem for Vietnam.

Speaking on the topic of infrastructure development, Mr. Nguyen Dat, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group, stated:
“For 5G networks, despite the significant investment challenges, we aim for rapid deployment so that by 2026, 5G coverage will match the current 4G footprint. All urban and rural areas will be equipped with the most advanced 5G Massive MIMO (multi-antenna) technology, ensuring high performance and readiness for next-generation digital services. Our goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of region, has access to technology, thereby bridging the digital divide and contributing to Vietnam’s goal of having the digital economy account for 30% of GDP by 2030.”

A representative of Viettel High Tech — the research and development arm for high-tech equipment within Viettel — also shared that Viettel has completely mastered core 5G technology, affirming its dual role as both a telecommunications operator and a technology innovator.

Beyond the independent deployment of its own 5G core network, Viettel also announced positive results in the research and development of Open RAN technology during the summit’s panel sessions. Open RAN is a strategic direction that enhances network autonomy, reduces dependency on foreign suppliers, and promotes flexibility and openness in network architecture. By mastering both hardware and software, Viettel stands among the few telecom operators worldwide capable of independently deploying a comprehensive 5G ecosystem.

Building on this strong foundation, Viettel is advancing toward 5G Advanced and 6G over the next five years, further solidifying its position as a pioneer in telecommunications and information technology in Vietnam and the region.

On the afternoon of April 15, representatives from Viettel Cyber Security and Viettel IDC held discussions with GSMA, LG, Nokia, and Ericsson on technology solutions and policy contributions in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Mr. Julian Gorman, Head of Asia-Pacific at GSMA, stated:
“Vietnam’s economy is growing very rapidly, perhaps one of the fastest in the region, and Viettel is among the largest operators. Vietnam’s and Viettel’s voices deserve to be amplified within the industry, and this event marks the first step toward achieving that.”
